A class of car dealers that won $3.7 million over claims that BMW faxed them junk mail told a New Jersey federal judge Tuesday that they shouldn't have to include tax identification numbers on their claim forms because individual awards will fall below the IRS' required reporting threshold.

Several BMW units have agreed to pay $3.7 million to resolve claims by a proposed class of car dealers that were faxed unsolicited financial services advertisements, according to a brief filed in New Jersey federal court.
