Nevada Power Co. urged a federal judge Tuesday to deny a bid for over $1.3 million in attorneys' fees and costs following a settlement over alleged toxic waste from the company's power plant, saying a tribe and environmental group can't be considered prevailing parties entitled to such an award.

A Nevada federal judge on Wednesday signed off on a $4.3 million settlement between the Moapa Band of Pauite Indians and the owners of a coal-fired power plant near Las Vegas alleged to have leaked toxic materials into the tribe's land and drinking water.
