A Washington, D.C., federal judge on Monday tossed two environmental groups' attempt to kill Enbridge Inc.'s proposed 589-mile tar sands oil pipeline project from being constructed, saying the federal government had no obligation to conduct an environmental review of the private project.

Two environmental groups urged a Washington federal judge on Friday to prevent Enbridge Inc.'s proposed 589-mile tar sands oil pipeline from moving forward because the federal government has not conducted a full environmental study on the project, claiming several agencies failed to consider the entire pipeline when it approved various portions of the plan.
