A West Virginia federal court on Monday sentenced former Mingo County Judge Michael Thornsbury to 50 months in federal prison on charges that he schemed to protect the reputation of a now-deceased sheriff who launched a drug case against a man the sheriff owed money.

A West Virginia county judge accused of trying to plant drugs on his mistress's husband and pursuing bogus criminal allegations against him pled not guilty to the federal charges Wednesday and was released on a $10,000 bond, according to court documents.
