The Ninth Circuit last week denied Google Inc.'s bid for a full appellate court rehearing of a September order that allowed a suit over whether the collection of data from Wi-Fi networks by its Street View fleet violated the federal Wiretap Act to proceed.

A technology policy think tank urged the Ninth Circuit on Friday to reconsider its ruling in a consolidated California lawsuit that Google Inc.'s collection of data from unencrypted Wi-Fi networks was not permitted under the Wiretap Act, arguing the decision was based around mistaken technological assumptions.
