The Federal Circuit on Monday affirmed that LG Electronics Inc. had not infringed on a patent covering backlighting technology held by Industrial Technology Research Institute, ruling that the U.S. International Trade Commission had relied on a correct claim construction when reaching its non-infringement decision.

Taiwanese developer Industrial Technology Research Institute told the Federal Circuit on Thursday that the U.S. International Trade Commission relied on erroneous claim construction to decide that LG Electronics Inc. had not infringed on ITRI's patent for backlighting technology used in liquid crystal displays.
