Attorneys for the artists who sought to block the demolition of a street art-covered property known as 5Pointz in Queens, N.Y., alleged Tuesday that an overnight whitewashing of the building improperly destroyed evidence in the ongoing copyright case.

A Brooklyn federal judge on Tuesday dissolved the temporary restraining order in a copyright suit that blocked the owners of a Queens property covered in street art from demolishing the building to construct about 1,000 housing units, following a fight over whether the artwork should be considered temporary or permanent.

A group of graffiti artists sued real estate developer G&M Realty LP in New York federal court Thursday, seeking an injunction preventing the company from demolishing and redeveloping 5Pointz, a street art exhibit covering the walls of otherwise unused industrial buildings in Long Island City.
