A California federal judge ruled Thursday that Apple Inc. is entitled to attorneys' fees from chipmaker Logic Devices Inc. in its case accusing the tech titan of infringing a patent later ruled invalid for double-patenting, saying the case is exceptional because Logic Devices' suit was a "huge mistake."

A California federal judge on Thursday threw out chipmaker Logic Devices Inc.'s case accusing Apple Inc. of infringing a patent on data processing, saying it looked like Logic Devices had "goofed up" in filing a lawsuit based on an invention Apple says was illegally double-patented.
