A New Jersey federal judge on Monday tossed a proposed class action alleging that Equinox Holdings Inc. violated the Truth In Lending Act and state consumer fraud protection laws, saying that monthly gym membership dues aren't considered credit under the statute.

Fitness company Equinox Holdings Inc. was hit with a proposed putative class action Friday in New Jersey federal court alleging it has violated the state's Consumer Fraud Act and other statutes by subjecting customers to unreasonable membership cancellation policies and billing practices.
