A Massachusetts federal judge on Friday shot down the town of Barnstable and others' challenge to an offshore wind farm and allegation that the state illegally pressured a utility company to buy power from the project when approving a merger, finding the opponents can't sue the state in federal court.

The town of Barnstable, Mass., and other opponents of a large wind farm filed suit Tuesday in Massachusetts federal court against administrators at the state's Department of Public Utilities, alleging they illegally pressured a utility company to buy power from a controversial wind farm project.
