A California federal judge on Friday cleared celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. and the Home Shopping Network of class claims that they misled consumers into believing that shoddy Chinese-made knives came from a German town famous for cutlery, citing a dearth of particulars in the complaint.

Martha Stewart and the Home Shopping Network on Tuesday urged a California federal judge to ax a proposed class action alleging they duped viewers into buying shoddy cutlery erroneously marketed as being made in Solingen, Germany, saying the consumers didn't show that ads for the product led them to purchase the knives.

Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse, Martha Stewart and the Home Shopping Network were hit Wednesday with a proposed class action accusing them of leading customers to believe that knives bearing Lagasse's name were high-quality products made in Solingen, Germany, when in fact they originated in China.
