An Illinois federal judge ruled Monday that a Seyfarth Shaw LLP partner did not violate a gag order by discussing a restaurant company's bankruptcy in a Law360 piece because the comments were made outside his official trustee role — but the ruling may merit an immediate appeal, the judge said.

Seyfarth Shaw LLP on Monday asked an Illinois federal judge to throw out a suit accusing one of its partners of defaming the former owners of a defunct restaurant company and breaching a settlement by disclosing confidential information about the company's bankruptcy in an interview with Law360.
