HSBC asked a judge on Monday to dismiss a suit in which Illinois' most populous county seeks to hold it accountable for increased costs and decreased revenues allegedly caused by a practice of discriminatory lending, saying HSBC's actions are not proximate to the injuries, an unshakeable requirement after a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision.

HSBC must face a lawsuit that accuses the bank of targeting minority borrowers in Illinois' most populous county with predatory subprime mortgages, a federal judge in the state ruled Wednesday, finding the county has standing under the Fair Housing Act and Article III of the Constitution.
