A California federal judge on Thursday refused to transfer a proposed consolidated class action accusing Toyota Motor Corp. of hiding from customers an engine defect that allegedly causes cars to use excessive amounts of oil, finding a legitimate connection to his district.

Toyota Motor Co. on Monday slammed a putative class’ attempt to block its bid to transfer to a different district a consolidated action accusing the auto giant of concealing an engine oil consumption defect, telling a California federal judge the plaintiffs are improperly accusing it of “reverse forum shopping.”

A California federal judge was urged on Thursday to appoint interim class counsel in a consolidated action accusing Toyota Motor Corp. of concealing an oil consumption defect in its engines, saying Toyota is attempting to delay the ruling because it wants the judge to first rule on its "improper" bid to transfer the suit.
