The Connecticut law firm that Brown University has accused of malpractice for allegedly letting a magnetic microscope patent expire hit the university's former in-house patent attorney with a third-party complaint Monday, claiming she was ultimately responsible for the lapse.

Brown University and its research wing on Tuesday filed a malpractice suit against Connecticut law firm Harrington & Smith LLP in Rhode Island federal court, alleging that the firm allowed one of the Ivy League school's patents covering a magnetic microscope to expire.
