Accused infringer Jive Communications Inc. was denied attorneys' fees Friday in a patent suit over online phone call technology, a ruling that came almost 18 months after a judge in the Eastern District of Texas found the patent was invalid for claiming only an abstract idea.

A Eastern District of Texas judge has ruled that a patent for online phone call technology asserted against Jive Communications Inc. is invalid for claiming only an abstract idea under the U.S. Supreme Court's Alice decision, the second such ruling in the busy patent district this week.
