A New York federal court on Monday barred a former Herrick Feinstein LLP tax attorney from working with or promoting tax shelters for his role in cheating the government out of as much as $130 million through sham tax transactions.

Counsel for a New York tax attorney accused of promoting 75 illegal tax shelters are blasting the government's push to temporarily block the attorney from promoting such activities, telling a federal judge Tuesday that a concurrent criminal investigation is deterrent enough.
