A Hawaii federal judge has denied tuna company Anova LLC's bad-faith claim against insurer Hanover over a settlement concerning underlying claims of infringement of a patented process for smoking food, saying there were no grounds for such a finding.

Anova Food LLC asked a Hawaii federal judge Friday to rethink her ruling that The Hanover Insurance Co. must cover the tuna company in an intellectual property lawsuit, asking the judge to extend the decision to include the full amount of the settlement rather than just half.

A Hawaii federal judge ruled Thursday that The Hanover Insurance Co. had a duty to defend tuna company Anova Food LLC in a lawsuit accusing it of infringing a patented process for smoking food, but refused to grant part of Anova's request for attorneys' fees.
