Ironshore Specialty Insurance Co. on Wednesday escaped owing an insurance broker roughly $28 million stemming from damage to Houston-area apartments caused by Hurricane Ike, finding that a claim the broker sought coverage for fell outside the policy period.

Ironshore Specialty Insurance Co. told a Texas federal judge Thursday that Southwest Risk LP and ClearView Risk Holdings LLC have based their bid for about $28 million stemming from damage to Houston apartments caused by Hurricane Ike on "irrelevant and unfounded arguments."
