Apple Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. on Monday dodged an antitrust and breach of contract suit alleging Apple coerced Amazon into dropping an e-retailer selling inexpensive iPad 2 covers, with a Washington federal judge saying Apple reasonably believed the products infringed on the company's iPad Smartcover.

Apple Inc. on Tuesday sought to exit a lawsuit alleging the company coerced Amazon.com Inc. into pulling the plug on an e-retailer selling inexpensive iPad 2 covers, saying it's shielded from the litigation because it believed the items were counterfeit and infringed the company's trademark rights for the iPad Smartcover.

A small online retailer on Friday sued Amazon.com Inc. and Apple Inc. for allegedly violating U.S. antitrust law by working together to put it out of business after it began selling iPad covers through Amazon's website at bargain prices.
