The Federal Circuit on Friday deemed a new trial necessary to determine damages in a design patent dispute over a loading dock patent in light of the Supreme Court's recent Samsung v. Apple case.

The Federal Circuit on Tuesday ordered a new damages trial in a design patent dispute between rival makers of loading dock equipment, ruling that its recent decision in the Apple v. Samsung smartphone patent case means that infringers of design patents must pay all of their profits to the patent owner.
