A federal judge's decision to disqualify a firm for hiring a paralegal from an opponent's firm in an employment case should be a cautionary tale for lawyers unaware of conflict dangers surrounding paralegals and other nonlawyers, experts said.

Holt Mynatt DQ'd From OT Suit After Hiring Paralegal
A New Mexico federal judge on Wednesday disqualified Holt Mynatt & Martinez PC from representing Denco Inc. in a suit accusing the construction company of underpaying its employees, saying the firm's new paralegal previously worked for plaintiffs' counsel and was privy to confidential information about the suit.
