The court-appointed receiver for Hunter Wise Commodities LLC on Thursday asked a Florida federal judge to sign off on a settlement ending claims that the firm's outside counsel failed to properly advise Hunter Wise on the legal risks of its $46 million precious metals investment scam.

Winston & Strawn LLP escaped a $100 million malpractice suit alleging one of its partners gave Hunter Wise Commodities LLC advice that led to the securities firm's demise, as a Florida federal judge ruled Wednesday she has no jurisdiction over the firm's Chicago attorney.
