Tobacco giant Swisher International Inc. told a California federal court on Monday that it wants a new trial after a $44 million jury verdict for a rival for which it had manufactured small cigars, saying a simple contract fight was passed off as an antitrust suit.

A California federal jury has sided with Trendsettah USA Inc. in its argument that tobacco giant Swisher International Inc. sabotaged its production of small "cigarillo" cigars, awarding the smaller tobacco company $14.8 million in antitrust damages, which Trendsettah's lawyers say will be trebled to $44.4 million.
