A New York federal judge on Thursday said Pomerantz LLP would not face sanctions for its role in litigating a now-concluded Fair Debt Collections Practices Act lawsuit over $131 in unpaid fees, saying that even though it did no wrong, the consequences from its limited involvement in the case would have been sanctions enough if it had.

Pomerantz LLP told a New York federal court on Wednesday that Midland Credit Management Inc. has no grounds for a sanctions bid against the it in a failed debt-collection class action, saying the firm's challenge to keep the suit alive and certify the class were fair game.

Pomerantz LLP shouldn't be allowed to escape a failed proposed class action alleging Midland Credit Management Inc. broke federal debt collection laws, the collector argued in New York federal court Wednesday, saying the law firm is just trying to get out of sanctions Midland has requested.
