Travelers Casualty and Surety Co. has settled with a web design company it accused of negligently maintaining a community bank's website and allowing hackers to steal bank customer information in 2012, according to a stipulation filed Monday in Illinois federal court.

A web design company on Friday urged a federal judge to toss Travelers Casualty and Surety Co.'s suit alleging that its negligence allowed hackers to breach a community bank's website in 2012, saying the insurer's claims are duplicative or barred under the economic loss doctrine.

Travelers Casualty and Surety Co. of America on Wednesday sued an Illinois-based Web design company, saying the company's negligence in designing and maintaining a community bank's website contributed to a data breach for which the insurer was left on the hook.
