The New York attorney general's investigation of mislabeled herbal supplements has sparked a new wave of consumer class actions against Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Target Corp. and other retailers, litigation that should serve as a wake-up call to merchants that haven't monitored their dietary supplements, attorneys said.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Target Corp. and The Walgreen Co. have each been slapped with proposed class actions in California federal court over the sale of store-brand herbal supplements that were allegedly mislabeled or don't contain their listed ingredients.
