The Massachusetts Institute of Technology said Monday it agreed to drop a lawsuit accusing Apple Inc. and Micron Technology Inc. of importing iPhones and iPads that contained infringing Micron-made semiconductors after the Patent Trial and Appeal Board last week canceled the laser-cutting patent MIT had asserted.

Apple Inc. and Micron Technology Inc. on Thursday urged a Massachusetts federal judge to toss the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's suit alleging Micron-made semiconductors imported into the country in iPhones and iPads infringe MIT's laser cutting patent, arguing the patent only covers the process, not the products.
