A New York federal judge on Tuesday tossed a $14 million suit by an apartment building owner alleging DirecTV and Dish Network LLC illegally installed satellite equipment, finding that the owner provided scant evidence that the companies are responsible for damage to roofs and walls.

An owner of multiple New York apartment buildings told a federal judge Friday its $14 million suit alleging DirecTV and Dish Network LLC illegally installed satellite equipment should be allowed to continue because it added previously lacking specifics to an amended complaint.

Dish Network LLC and DirecTV LLC sought this week to toss punitive damage claims in New York federal court for allegedly installing more than 100 satellite TV antennas on Bronx apartment buildings without the owner's permission, arguing that the installation showed no malice that would warrant punitive damages.
