Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc. agreed Thursday to settle a patent infringement suit brought by a unit of Acacia Research Corp. accusing the telecom equipment maker of infringing a data communications patent, avoiding a trial that was set to begin Tuesday, according to California federal court records.

After a patent infringement suit against Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc. was recently dismissed for lack of standing due to a missing document, Labyrinth Optical Technologies LLC filed an identical complaint in California federal court Thursday, saying it had addressed the problem.
