First American Title Insurance Co. told a Utah federal court Tuesday that it shouldn't let a competitor receive a new trial over claims it illegally poached First American's employees, calling its Dec. 16 jury award of more than $3 million reasonable and well supported by the facts.

A Utah federal judge on Monday denied Northwest Title Insurance's bid to set aside a $2.7 million verdict awarded to First American Title Insurance and block additional damages in its suit alleging former employees schemed to open the competitor, saying there's "sufficient evidence for punitive damages."
