A West Virginia federal court on Tuesday put on hold a suit accusing a Patriot Coal Corp. subsidiary of dumping huge amounts of toxins into state waterways, staying the case until the parent company can work its way out of bankruptcy.

A subsidiary of Patriot Coal Corp. was accused on Monday in federal court of dumping pollutants from a massive mining project into a West Virginia river and its tributaries, effectively rendering the ecosystem of the river unlivable for wildlife.
