    Lockheed Says Negligence Not A Defense In Cleanup Suit

    Lockheed Martin asked a New York federal judge on Friday to rule that Glencore Ltd. can't wriggle out of paying millions of dollars for environmental cleanup from a shuttered alumina refinery in the U.S. Virgin Islands by claiming Lockheed Martin was negligent in building or operating the facility, saying negligence isn't a factor in determining liability.

    Lockheed Martin Corp. went to New York federal court Monday to try to force mining company Glencore LTD to cover costs, including a $20.75 million settlement Lockheed reached with the U.S. Virgin Islands, stemming from toxic leaks at a refinery the aerospace and defense giant used to own.
