Los Angeles-based Pacific Alliance Medical Center has agreed to pay $42 million to settle a whistleblower's allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by entering into illegal referral agreements with community partners, the U.S. Department of Justice said Wednesday.

Los Angeles-based Pacific Alliance Medical Center on Friday asked a California federal judge to rule on two aspects of a whistleblower lawsuit claiming the hospital violated the False Claims Act, saying that there's no reason to sue the facility's general partner and that certain marketing agreements aren't improper financial relationships.
