The California federal judge overseeing several high-profile challenges to Uber's model of classifying drivers as independent contractors on Monday paused most of a suit accusing the ride-hailing giant of minimum wage and overtime violations under California law, saying a separate state court suit needs to play out first.

Uber drivers behind a Fair Labor Standards Act suit seeking minimum wage and overtime asked a California federal judge on Friday to grant conditional class certification, arguing they had sufficiently accused the ride-hailing service of intentionally misclassifying Golden State drivers.
