A Northrop Grumman subsidiary, but not the parent, exited a suit Monday in which insurers allege the companies participated in the development and manufacture of a steering mechanism that malfunctioned and caused a $4.6 million boat crash on the Cape Cod Canal.

Five insurers and a building materials company hit Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. with a $4.6 million lawsuit Tuesday in New Jersey federal court over a boat crash on the Cape Cod Canal that damaged a barge and its cargo, saying Northrop Grumman's faulty steering mechanism caused the crash.
