A Louisiana federal judge on Sunday ordered the state to keep reimbursing Planned Parenthood of the Gulf Coast for Medicaid payments for at least another two weeks, pending the organization's lawsuit challenging if the state can cut their contract without medical reasoning.

The federal government on Monday told a Louisiana federal court that the state does not have the authority to end its Medicaid contract with Planned Parenthood without proving the organization is unqualified to provide medical services, as doing so violates beneficiaries' freedom to choose their own provider.

Less than a month after Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal announced he would be ending Planned Parenthood's Medicaid provider contract, the organization on Tuesday asked a federal judge for injunctive relief, saying patients would be irreparably harmed by the purely political move.
