An AIG unit has prevailed in a $13 million coverage dispute with University of Phoenix parent company Apollo Education Group after an Arizona federal court ruled Thursday that the insurer had a valid reason for wanting to fight on rather than settle a class action over backdated stock options.

University of Phoenix parent company Apollo Education went after an AIG unit in Arizona federal court on Tuesday for coverage of a $13 million deal ending a suit over backdated stock options, saying the insurer looked out for itself.
