Fitness club chain Curves International Inc. urged a Texas federal judge Wednesday to throw out a $1.5 million jury verdict for 52 franchisees in a lawsuit over the company's alleged failure to provide sufficient advertising support, saying the jury's ruling is not backed up by evidence.

A Texas federal jury found Monday that national fitness club chain Curves International Inc. breached its contract with 52 franchises by failing to provide them with adequate advertising, awarding the franchisees north of $1.5 million in total damages.
