An Illinois federal judge denied class certification Monday to a consumer allegedly sent an inaccurate debt collection letter by Midland Credit Management Inc., saying there are no objective criteria by which a class of those injured could be created.

An Illinois federal court on Thursday found Midland Credit Management can't escape a putative class action alleging it engages in misleading debt collection practices, rejecting Midland's argument that the customer who filed suit hadn't sustained damages.
