A group of consumers urged a California federal judge on Friday to rule that it should not be up to an arbitrator to determine whether they are bound by arbitration agreements in a proposed class action accusing Fitbit Inc. of making "wildly inaccurate" wearable fitness trackers.

The heart rate tracking technology in Fitbit's fitness watches is "wildly inaccurate" and doesn't work properly during intense physical activity, consumers who bought the devices said Tuesday in a proposed class action in California federal court that also claims that the company's attempt to force all complaining customers into arbitration is "unconscionable."
