Ford urged a Florida federal judge Friday to reject a parts maker's bid to sidestep counterclaims filed by the automaker in a trademark dispute, saying its GT and other trademarks are strong and entitled to a broad scope of protection, and that the parts maker's logos are similar enough to constitute infringement.

A Florida federal judge on Monday freed Ford Motor Co. from an aftermarket parts maker's lawsuit over the company's alleged interference in its business relationships with third party retailers, saying the cease and desist letters the automaker sent to prevent the sale of Ford trademarked goods are protected under the First Amendment.
