Tesla Motor Inc. launched a suit Tuesday in California federal court seeking a declaration that it didn't violate its contract with the supplier of components for a hydraulic-lift door system, saying the contractor's prototypes were defective and that it doesn't owe further contracts after seeking out a new supplier.
