An Illinois federal judge ordered a national chain of tax preparation stores to shut its doors Tuesday in response to a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice accusing the company of filing thousands of fraudulent returns.

As tax season gets underway, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit in Illinois federal court Thursday to stop a tax preparer that may have cost the government $8.2 million in 2015 tax revenue from filing more fraudulent returns.
