A proposed class of shoppers told a California federal judge on Tuesday that it has standing to sue fashion accessories retailer Dooney & Bourke Inc. over alleged false advertising on sales at its outlet stores that tricked consumers into purchasing items of lesser quality than if they shopped at regular stores.

Popular outlet brands Burberry, Dooney & Bourke, The Children's Place and New York & Co. were all hit Thursday with proposed class actions in New York and California federal court by customers claiming the retailers' alleged discount prices are nothing more than "phantom savings" intended to trick consumers into purchases.
