Alarm.com Inc. has agreed to pay $28 million to end a certified class action claiming that it violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by telemarketing to more than 1.2 million consumers, according to documents filed in California federal court.

A California federal judge on Tuesday seemed poised to certify a class of consumers and small businesses who allege Alarm.com violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by telemarketing, saying Alarm.com's liability for a third-party firm's calls and whether the calls were promoting its products were common questions of fact.
