Four proposed class actions accusing Starbucks of tricking consumers by underfilling its drinks, two of which relate to lattes and two that involve iced beverages, don't sufficiently overlap and aren't complex enough to warrant centralization, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation ruled Friday, striking down the retailer's transfer bid.

Starbucks Corp. will have to face the bulk of a proposed class action alleging its baristas systematically serve drinks that aren't filled to the brim, according to a California court order Friday that kept alive claims the company is deceiving customers with its allegedly too-small drink recipes.

A pair of Starbucks Corp. latte drinkers have accused the coffee retailer of ripping off consumers by habitually underfilling its popular beverages by at least 25 percent, in violation of a number of California consumer protection laws, according to a proposed class action filed in California federal court on Wednesday.
