Kellogg Co. is off the hook for $2 million in heating bills after an Illinois federal judge ruled Tuesday that a 1973 agreement requires Cook County to provide a Chicago facility owned by the company's subsidiary with steam heat free of charge.

Kellogg is fighting back against an in-court demand by Cook County that it pay $2 million for 10 years of heating bills allegedly run up on a Chicago facility, saying in federal court Thursday that it was only informed of the "out of the blue" charges last year.

Illinois' Cook County is suing Kellogg in federal court to get ahold of over $2 million in alleged heating costs for a Chicago building that date back to 2005 but that the cereal and snack manufacturer purportedly refused to pay.
