A Montana federal judge on Thursday formally vacated the federal government's decision to approve of a proposed underground copper and silver mine, saying that the deficiencies in the biological opinions issued for the project are substantial.

The federal government on Monday urged a Montana federal court to end a lawsuit over a proposed copper and silver mine in its favor, saying that it has done enough to protect trout and grizzly bears and that the environmental groups that sued ignored important facts when arguing the opposite.
