A soon-to-close information technology support company must not destroy any data related to an Illinois health data exchange for the next two weeks, as the exchange operator works to receive and validate the data before its former IT contractor shuts down, an Illinois federal judge said on Thursday.

An Illinois health data exchange operator on Tuesday sued its information technology support contractor over its plan to destroy all client data after going out of business, saying the move would breach their contract and potentially violate the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
